The last day in Barcelona was my final goodbye to the
beautiful architecture, climate, food, and culture.
In the morning I was
lucky that I was able to skype Johnny, which was such a relief to be able to
see someone I miss so dearly and share the experiences I have had so far. While
I was in the café I got churros and hot chocolate which only made me even
hungrier, so I headed to La Boqueria for one last food run. I tried empanadas,
crepes, fruit juice, and gelato. The gelato was by far my favorite (lime was
the best, and very refreshing) and I think a goal for Italy is to eat some
every day.
Because we needed to be back on the ship fairly early in the
afternoon, we wandered around Las Ramblas hanging out with the street
performers, shopping in the local market, and exploring the marina. Because I
brought along a nice camera, Hope and I obviously had to test it out with a
little photo shoot. I’ve added sample shot of Hope’s model status.
Getting back to the ship early wasn’t too bad. I successfully
avoided dock time which is when any student who comes back late has to stay on
the ship for an hour in the next port for every 15 minutes late after on the
designated on ship time. I was exhausted from romping around Spain however, so
the downtime was welcomed, and it gave me a chance to catch up on school work
(which I almost forgot I had an exam the next day!) and send my postcards.
I definitely want to come back to Spain, specifically
Barcelona, because I know there is still so much to see. I loved the culture,
especially the mid day siestas the naps fit perfectly with my sleep schedule.
However staying out until 4 or 5am in the morning is not quite sustainable for
me. If I can eat coquettes, churros, and drink cava, I could probably be
persuaded though. So goodbye Spain, and hello Italy in less than 48 hours!
